Clan Robertson

History
The Clan Robertson (also known as Clan Donnachaidh, meaning “Children of Duncan”) is one of the oldest Highland clans, descending directly from Donnchadh Reamhar, a 14th-century chief who supported Robert the Bruce during the Wars of Scottish Independence. For this loyalty, the family was granted lands in Perthshire, forming the heartland of the clan.
The Robertsons are renowned for their courage, loyalty, and deep connection to Scotland’s royal heritage. The clan’s historic seat is Dunalastair, nestled in the beautiful Highlands of Perthshire.

Clan Crest and Motto
The Robertson clan crest shows a hand holding an imperial crown, symbolizing loyalty to the Scottish monarchy and the clan’s noble service to the crown.
The clan motto, “Virtutis Gloria Merces,” translates as “Glory is the reward of valour.” It captures the spirit of bravery, faithfulness, and honor that has defined Clan Robertson throughout history.

Clan Septs
Families associated with Clan Robertson include Duncan, Reid, Collier, MacConnachie, and Donnachie, among others who share the same proud lineage.

Clan Tartan
The Robertson tartan features deep reds and forest greens, representing courage and the Highland landscape that shaped the clan’s identity.
It stands as a timeless emblem of Scottish honor and strength — a tribute to the clan’s enduring legacy and warrior spirit.
