Clan MacNicol

The Clan MacNicol (also spelled Nicolson, Gaelic: Clann MhicNeacail) is an ancient Highland clan whose origins lie in the western seaboard and the Isle of Skye. Tradition holds that the MacNicols were of Norse-Gaelic descent, descended from settlers who came to Scotland during the Viking Age. By the medieval period, they were established as influential leaders in Assynt and Skye, with strong ties to both the Isles and the mainland Highlands.
