Clan MacLean

The Clan MacLean (Gaelic: Clann Mhic Gille Eathain) is one of the oldest and most distinguished clans of the Scottish Highlands, with origins tracing back to the 13th century. Traditionally based on the Isle of Mull, the MacLeans became powerful sea-lords and warriors, loyal to the Lords of the Isles and later known for their fierce independence. The clan’s seat was at Duart Castle, which still stands proudly overlooking the Sound of Mull.
