SCOTTISH CLAN CREST SGIAN DUBH

Discover the exquisite Sgian Dubh, a traditional Scottish knife featuring a striking black handle, now available with your Clan crest crafted from lead-free pewter or fine sterling silver.

This elegant Sgian Dubh measures 7-1/2” in length and 1-3/8” in width, boasting a stainless steel blade complemented by nickel silver plated fittings. At the top, choose from a stunning imitation topaz, sapphire blue, or emerald green synthetic stone to personalize your piece.

Your Clan crest is elegantly encircled by a detailed belt and buckle motif, featuring your clan motto inscribed in raised relief lettering. Historically, the chief of the Clan bestowed this crest upon clansmen as a symbol of loyalty and Clan identity. Each Sgian Dubh is meticulously handcrafted in sterling silver, with the Clan Crest measuring 11/16" (19.5mm) in diameter.

This item is made to order, typically completed in just a few days. We cater to every Clan, so be sure to include your Clan name in the comments section during your order. While this Sgian Dubh is a high-quality piece, please note that the handle and sheath are made of resin, and the fittings are plated. Authentic antique Sgian Dubhs with sterling silver fittings can exceed $1,000; this version is an economical alternative.

THE ORIGIN OF THE "SGIAN DUBH"
The term Sgian Dubh, meaning Black Knife in Gaelic, is believed to derive from the knife's dark appearance—earlier versions featured handles carved from black bog wood, and the blades darkened with use and age.
Another theory suggests that the name reflects the weapon's concealment potential, as it is customary to display the Sgian Dubh prominently atop the stocking while donning Highland attire, signaling to others that the wearer is among friends and harbors no malice.
It is crucial to emphasize that the Sgian Dubh is not, and should not be regarded as, a weapon!
