SCOTTISH CLAN CREST SGIAN DUBH

Introducing the exquisite Sgian Dubh, a traditional Scottish knife featuring a black handle, available with your Clan crest crafted in lead-free pewter or luxurious sterling silver.

Measuring 7-1/2” in length and 1-3/8” in width, this brand new Sgian Dubh boasts a stainless steel blade complemented by nickel silver-plated fittings. The knife is adorned with an imitation stone, available in vibrant options such as topaz, sapphire blue, or emerald green.

The Clan crest is elegantly encircled by a finely detailed belt and buckle motif, featuring your clan motto inscribed in raised relief. Historically, Clan chiefs bestowed their crests upon clansmen as a mark of loyalty and affiliation. Each piece is meticulously handcrafted in sterling silver, with the Clan Crest measuring 11/16" (19.5mm) in diameter.

As this item is made to order, it typically ships within just a few days. We cater to every Clan, so please include your Clan name in the comments section when placing your order. While this Sgian Dubh is well-crafted, it features a resin handle and sheath, with plated fittings. For comparison, a genuine vintage Sgian Dubh with solid silver fittings can cost over $1,000. This model offers an economical alternative.

THE ORIGIN OF THE "SGIAN DUBH"
The name Sgian Dubh, meaning "Black Knife" in Gaelic, is believed to stem from the knife's dark appearance, with early handles often made from black bog wood and blades darkening over time through use. An alternative theory suggests the name relates to the concealed nature of this knife, as it was traditionally kept visible at the top of the stocking when wearing Highland attire, symbolizing friendship and good intentions. It is important to note that the Sgian Dubh is not considered a weapon.

With over forty years in the Scottish Clan crest industry, our company proudly creates Clan jewelry for the children and grandchildren of our first customers, ensuring a legacy of tradition and craftsmanship.
