🛡 Clan Crest Design
Each Sgian Dubh proudly displays your Scottish Clan crest, surrounded by the traditional belt and buckle motif, inscribed with your Clan motto in raised relief.
In ancient times, the Clan Chief presented this emblem to his clansmen as a symbol of loyalty, unity, and kinship. Our craftsmen continue that same proud tradition today.

🗡 The Story of the Sgian Dubh
The name “Sgian Dubh” (pronounced Skee-an Doo) is Gaelic for “Black Knife.”
There are two traditional explanations for its origins:
-
Appearance: Early handles were carved from dark bog wood, and the blades darkened through use and age.
-
Symbolism: Once a concealed blade, the Sgian Dubh came to be worn openly in the kilt hose — a gesture of friendship and trust among Highlanders.
⚠️ The Sgian Dubh was not, is not, and should not be considered a weapon — it is a ceremonial and cultural symbol.
