📜 The Origin of the Sgian Dubh
The name Sgian Dubh (Gaelic for Black Knife) is believed to come from the blade’s dark appearance — early versions were carved from black bog wood, and their blades darkened through age and use.
Another theory links the name to its once-concealed nature — a small blade carried discreetly for protection. Today, the Sgian Dubh is worn openly in the kilt hose, symbolizing trust and friendship.
⚠️ The Sgian Dubh is a ceremonial accessory — not, and should never be considered, a weapon.
