📜 The Origin of the Sgian Dubh

The name “Sgian Dubh” (Gaelic for Black Knife) comes from its dark appearance — early handles were carved from black bog wood, and the blade darkened through use.

Another tradition says it earned its name from being a hidden knife, which is why it is now worn openly in the kilt hose, showing that the wearer is among friends and bears no ill intent.

⚠️ The Sgian Dubh was not, is not, and should not be considered a weapon — it is a symbol of heritage and honor.
