📜 The Origin of the “Sgian Dubh”

The name Sgian Dubh (Gaelic for Black Knife) is believed to derive from either:

  1. Its dark appearance, originally carved from black bog wood with a blade darkened by age and use.

  2. Its concealed nature, once carried discreetly as a defensive tool.

In Highland tradition, the Sgian Dubh is worn openly in the kilt hose, symbolizing friendship and trust — showing that the wearer carries no hidden weapon or ill intent.

⚠️ The Sgian Dubh was not, is not, and should never be considered a weapon.
