SCOTTISH CLAN CREST SGIAN DUBH

Introducing the exquisite Sgian Dubh, a traditional Scottish knife featuring a stunning black handle, personalized with your Clan crest crafted from lead-free pewter or fine sterling silver.

This newly designed Sgian Dubh measures 7-1/2” in length and 1-3/8” in width, boasting a sharp stainless steel blade complemented by nickel silver plated fittings. The top is adorned with a synthetic stone available in imitation topaz, sapphire blue, or emerald green.

Your Clan crest is elegantly encircled by a detailed belt and buckle motif, showcasing your clan motto in raised relief lettering. Historically, the clan chief bestowed this crest upon his clansmen as a token of loyalty and Clan identity. Each piece is meticulously handcrafted in sterling silver, with the Clan Crest measuring 11/16" (19.5mm) in diameter.

Keep in mind that this item is made to order and typically takes just a few days to complete. We cater to every Clan, so please include your Clan name in the comment section when placing your order. This Sgian Dubh is crafted with care, featuring a resin handle and sheath, while the fittings are plated. In contrast, an authentic vintage Sgian Dubh with sterling silver fittings can exceed $1,000.00, making this model an economical choice.

THE ORIGIN OF THE "SGIAN DUBH"
The name Sgian Dubh, which translates to "Black Knife" in Gaelic, is believed to have originated from the knife's dark appearance—historically, handles were carved from black bog wood, and the blades would darken over time through use. Another theory suggests that its name comes from the hidden nature of this weapon, which is why it is traditionally worn visibly on top of the stocking while donning Highland attire, signaling that the wearer is among friends and harbors no ill intent.
It is essential to note that the Sgian Dubh is not, nor should it ever be regarded as, a weapon!
