SCOTTISH CLAN CREST SGIAN DUBH
This exquisite Sgian Dubh, a traditional Scottish knife featuring a striking black handle, is offered with your Clan crest crafted in lead-free pewter or fine sterling silver.
Measuring 7-1/2 inches in length and 1-3/8 inches in width, this brand-new Sgian Dubh is equipped with a stainless steel blade and nickel silver plated fittings. The handle is adorned with a synthetic stone available in imitation topaz, sapphire blue, or emerald green.
Your Clan crest is elegantly framed by an intricate belt and buckle design, featuring your clan motto inscribed in raised relief lettering. Historically, the Clan chief would present this crest to his clansmen as a token of loyalty and affiliation. Each piece is meticulously handcrafted with exceptional detail in sterling silver, with the Clan Crest measuring 11/16 inches (19.5mm) in diameter.
Kindly note that this item is made to order and typically takes less than a few days to complete. All Clans are available, and to personalize your order, simply include your Clan name in the comments section during checkout. While this Sgian Dubh is beautifully crafted, please be aware that the handle and sheath are made of resin, and the fittings are plated. In contrast, a genuine vintage Sgian Dubh with sterling silver fittings can exceed $1,000. This version is budget-friendly.
THE ORIGIN OF THE "SGIAN DUBH"
The term Sgian Dubh, which translates to "Black Knife" in Gaelic, is believed to derive from the knife’s dark exterior—early handles were often hand-carved from black bog wood, and the blade would darken with use and age.
Alternatively, it may stem from the weapon's easily concealed nature, which led to the tradition of wearing the Sgian Dubh visibly atop the stocking while dressed in Highland attire, signaling that the wearer is among friends and bears no ill intentions.
It's important to emphasize that the Sgian Dubh was never intended to be regarded as a weapon!
With over forty years of experience in the Scottish Clan crest business, our company is proud to create Clan jewelry for the next generation, including the children and grandchildren of our original customers.
