📏 Dimensions & Design
This newly crafted Sgian Dubh measures 7-1/2” (190 mm) long and 1-3/8” (35 mm) wide. It boasts a durable stainless steel blade with nickel silver plated fittings. The top is accented with your choice of synthetic stones: imitation topaz, sapphire blue, or emerald green.
🔱 Clan Crest Details
Encircled by a detailed belt and buckle motif, your Clan crest proudly displays the motto in raised relief lettering. The crest measures 11/16" (19.5mm) in diameter. Historically, this crest was bestowed by the Clan chief as a symbol of loyalty and affiliation. Each piece is handcrafted with meticulous attention to detail.
⏳ Made to Order
This item is custom-made with a typical turnaround of a few days. All Clan designs are available—simply specify your Clan name in the order comments.
⚠️ Note on Materials
While sturdy and beautifully crafted, the handle and sheath are made of resin, with plated fittings. Genuine antique Sgian Dubhs with sterling silver fittings may cost over $1,000, making this an affordable and elegant alternative.
📜 Origin of the “Sgian Dubh”
The Gaelic term means “Black Knife,” likely inspired by the traditional black bog wood handles and the darkening of the blade over time. Another theory attributes the name to the knife’s concealed nature, worn visibly at the stocking’s top during Highland dress to show peaceful intent among friends. Importantly, the Sgian Dubh was never intended as a weapon.
