THE ORIGIN OF THE "SGIAN DUBH"

The Sgian Dubh, translating to "Black Knife" in Gaelic, has ancient roots linked to its dark appearance; early handles were often hand-carved from black bog wood, and blades darkened with use and age. Another theory suggests its name stems from the concealed nature of this weapon, leading to the tradition of displaying the Sgian Dubh on the top of the stocking while wearing Highland attire, symbolizing friendship and goodwill.
