SCOTTISH CLAN CREST SGIAN DUBH
Discover the exquisite Scottish Sgian Dubh, a traditional black-handled knife that showcases your Clan crest crafted in lead-free pewter or luxurious sterling silver.
Measuring 7-1/2” in length and 1-3/8” in width, this stunning Sgian Dubh features a high-quality stainless steel blade and nickel silver plated fittings. Choose from a striking imitation topaz, sapphire blue, or emerald green synthetic stone adorning the top of the knife.
The Clan crest is elegantly encircled by an intricate belt and buckle motif, which proudly displays your clan motto in raised relief lettering. Historically, this crest was presented by the Clan chief to signify loyalty and Clan affiliation among his clansmen. Each piece is meticulously handcrafted with exceptional attention to detail in sterling silver, featuring a Clan Crest that measures 11/16" (19.5mm) in diameter.
Kindly note that this item is custom-made and takes less than a few days to complete. We cater to every Clan, so be sure to include your Clan name in the comment section when placing your order. While this Sgian Dubh is a well-crafted piece, please keep in mind that the handle and sheath are made from resin, and the fittings are plated. Authentic antique Sgian Dubhs with solid silver fittings can exceed $1,000.00; however, this model offers a more economical option.
THE ORIGIN OF THE "SGIAN DUBH"
The term Sgian Dubh, translating to "Black Knife" in Gaelic, likely arises from the knife’s dark hue, as early handles were often intricately carved from black bog wood, and blades darkened with use over time. Another theory posits that the name stems from the weapon's covert nature; it was customary to display the Sgian Dubh prominently at the top of the stocking when donned in Highland attire, signifying trust and goodwill among friends. It is important to note that the Sgian Dubh is not considered a weapon, nor should it be.
