SCOTTISH CLAN CREST SGIAN DUBH
Introducing the exquisite Sgian Dubh, a traditional Scottish knife characterized by its elegant black handle, available with your Clan crest crafted in lead-free pewter or luxurious sterling silver.
This stunning Sgian Dubh measures 7-1/2” in length and 1-3/8” in width, featuring a durable stainless steel blade complemented by nickel silver plated fittings. The top of the knife is adorned with a choice of synthetic stones, including imitation topaz, sapphire blue, or emerald green.
Your Clan crest is elegantly encircled by a finely detailed belt and buckle design, which showcases your clan motto in raised relief lettering. Historically, the chief of the Clan would present this crest to his clansmen, symbolizing their loyalty and affiliation with the Clan. Each piece is meticulously handcrafted with high attention to detail in sterling silver, and the Clan Crest itself measures 11/16" (19.5mm) in diameter.
Kindly note that this item is made to order, typically taking just a few days for completion. We offer every Clan, so please include your Clan name in the comments section when placing your order. The Sgian Dubh is crafted with quality in mind, although the handle and sheath are made from resin, and the fittings are plated. Unlike a genuine vintage Sgian Dubh with sterling silver fittings, which can exceed $1,000.00, this model is an affordable alternative.
THE ORIGIN OF THE "SGIAN DUBH"
The term Sgian Dubh, translating to "Black Knife" in Gaelic, is believed to stem from the knife's dark hue; historically, handles were often carved from black bog wood, and the blades would darken with use and age. Another theory suggests that the name relates to the knife's concealed nature, which is why it is traditionally worn visibly at the top of the stocking when donning Highland dress, signaling that its bearer is among friends and harbors no malicious intent.
It's important to clarify that the Sgian Dubh was never intended to be a weapon and should not be regarded as such!
