Each Sgian Dubh is custom made to order, with every Clan available. The crest is hand-finished in sterling silver or pewter, ensuring exceptional quality and durability.

The Origin of the Sgian Dubh

The term Sgian Dubh, Gaelic for “Black Knife”, is believed to originate from:

  • Appearance: Early handles carved from black bog wood, with blades that darkened over time.

  • Tradition: Originally concealed, it became customary to wear the Sgian Dubh openly in the stocking, signaling peace and friendship.

Note: The Sgian Dubh has always been a ceremonial dress accessory, not a weapon.

Handcrafted in Scotland with over 43 years of Clan jewelry expertise, this Sgian Dubh continues the tradition of Scottish pride—crafted now for the children and grandchildren of our original customers.
