SCOTTISH CLAN CREST SGIAN DUBH

Discover the elegance of the Sgian Dubh, a traditional Scottish knife featuring a striking black handle, now available with your Clan crest crafted in lead-free pewter or exquisite sterling silver.

This exceptional Sgian Dubh measures 7-1/2 inches in length and 1-3/8 inches in width, boasting a stainless steel blade complemented by nickel silver plated fittings. The knife's top is adorned with a choice of synthetic stones in imitation topaz, sapphire blue, or emerald green.

Your Clan crest is beautifully encircled by an intricate belt and buckle motif, showcasing your clan motto in raised relief lettering. Historically, Clan chiefs bestowed their crest upon clansmen as a mark of loyalty and Clan identity. Each piece is meticulously handcrafted with high attention to detail in sterling silver, and the Clan Crest itself measures 11/16 inches (19.5mm) in diameter.

Please be aware that this item is made to order, with a quick turnaround of just a few days. All Clan designs are available. To personalize your order, simply include your Clan name in the comment section during checkout. This Sgian Dubh is expertly crafted, featuring a resin handle and sheath with plated fittings. While a genuine antique Sgian Dubh with sterling silver fittings can exceed $1,000, this model is an economical choice.

THE ORIGIN OF THE "SGIAN DUBH"
The term Sgian Dubh, which translates to "Black Knife" in Gaelic, is believed to have originated from the knife's dark aesthetic—historically, the handles were often intricately carved from black bog wood, and the blades would darken with use and time. Another theory suggests that the name is derived from the weapon's concealed nature, leading to the tradition of wearing the Sgian Dubh visibly at the top of the stocking while donning Highland attire, symbolizing friendship and good intentions. Importantly, the Sgian Dubh is not intended to be regarded as a weapon!
