SCOTTISH CLAN CREST SGIAN DUBH
Introducing the exquisite Sgian Dubh, a traditional Scottish knife featuring a striking black handle, available with your Clan crest crafted in lead-free pewter or premium sterling silver.
This brand-new Sgian Dubh measures 7-1/2” in length and 1-3/8” in width, equipped with a durable stainless steel blade and nickel silver-plated fittings. The knife's top is adorned with a synthetic stone available in imitation topaz, sapphire blue, or emerald green.
The Clan crest is beautifully encircled by an intricate belt and buckle motif, which displays your clan motto in raised relief lettering. Historically, the chief of the Clan would bestow his crest upon clansmen as a symbol of loyalty and Clan identity. Each piece is meticulously handcrafted in high detail using sterling silver, with the Clan Crest measuring 11/16" (19.5mm) in diameter.
Kindly note that this item is made to order, typically requiring only a few days for completion. All Clans are represented, and to personalize your order, please include your Clan name in the comments section during checkout. While this Sgian Dubh is expertly constructed, the handle and sheath are made from resin, and the fittings are plated. In contrast, a genuine antique Sgian Dubh with solid silver fittings can be priced at over $1,000.00; this model offers a more budget-friendly option.
THE ORIGIN OF THE "SGIAN DUBH"
The name Sgian Dubh, meaning "Black Knife" in Gaelic, is believed to derive from the knife's dark appearance—early handles were often handcrafted from black bog wood, and the blades darkened with use and age. Another theory suggests that its name reflects the concealed nature of the weapon, which is why it is traditionally worn visibly at the top of the stocking when donning Highland attire, signifying that the wearer is among friends and harbors no ill intent.
It is essential to clarify that the Sgian Dubh was never intended to be considered a weapon!
