SCOTTISH CLAN CREST SGIAN DUBH
Discover the elegance of the Sgian Dubh, a traditional Scottish knife featuring a striking black handle, customizable with your Clan crest crafted from lead-free pewter or premium sterling silver.
This exquisite Sgian Dubh measures 7-1/2 inches in length and 1-3/8 inches in width, boasting a stainless steel blade complemented by nickel silver plated fittings. Choose from an array of stunning synthetic stones, including imitation topaz, sapphire blue, or emerald green, adorning the top of this remarkable piece.
Each Clan crest is intricately encircled by a beautifully designed belt and buckle motif, showcasing your clan motto in raised relief. Historically, the Clan chief would present his crest to the clansmen as a mark of loyalty and affiliation. Each item is meticulously handcrafted in sterling silver, with the Clan Crest measuring 11/16" (19.5mm) in diameter.
This Sgian Dubh is made to order and typically ships in just a few days. We cater to every Clan, so please include your Clan name in the comments section during your order process. While the Sgian Dubh is expertly crafted, please note that the handle and sheath are made from resin, with plated fittings. In contrast, a genuine antique Sgian Dubh featuring solid silver fittings can exceed $1,000. This piece offers an economical yet high-quality alternative.
THE ORIGIN OF THE "SGIAN DUBH"
The term "Sgian Dubh," which translates to "Black Knife" in Gaelic, is believed to stem from the knife's dark aesthetic, with early handles carved from black bog wood and blades that darkened over time. Another theory suggests that the name reflects the concealed nature of the weapon, which is why it is traditionally worn visibly at the top of the stocking while donning Highland attire, signaling that the wearer is among friends and bears no ill will.
The Sgian Dubh should never be regarded as a weapon!
