The History of the Sgian Dubh

The term Sgian Dubh translates from Gaelic to Black Knife. Traditionally crafted with black bog wood handles and carried discreetly, the Sgian Dubh was worn visibly at the top of the stocking to signify openness and goodwill among friends. Though it has historic roots, the Sgian Dubh is not intended as a weapon, but as a symbolic and decorative part of Highland attire.
