The Origin of the Sgian Dubh:
The name Sgian Dubh means “Black Knife” in Gaelic, likely referring to its dark handle, often made from black bog wood in early designs. Traditionally worn visibly in the stocking, it symbolized that the wearer was among friends and bore no ill intent. The Sgian Dubh has always been regarded as a ceremonial accessory, not a weapon.
This economical alternative to antique sterling silver Sgian Dubhs maintains traditional style while being accessible and beautifully made.
