Experience the finest craftsmanship with our Scottish Clan Crest Sgian Dubh, meticulously made by The Sgian Dubh Company in Scotland—renowned for producing the highest quality Sgian Dubh available today. Each piece arrives in an elegant blue presentation box proudly marked “Made in Scotland”, making it a perfect gift or collector’s item.

This traditional Scottish black-handled Sgian Dubh is available with your Clan crest, beautifully cast in lead-free pewter or sterling silver. We offer crests for all major Scottish Clans, allowing you to personalize your Sgian Dubh with a meaningful connection to your heritage.

Product Features:

  • Overall Length: 7 ½” (190 mm)

  • Width: 1 3/8” (35 mm)

  • Blade: Stainless steel

  • Fittings: Nickel silver plated

  • Handle & Sheath: Durable resin with plated metal accents

  • Stone Options: Blue sapphire, emerald green, or purple amethyst glass stone

Each Clan crest is surrounded by a detailed belt and buckle design featuring your Clan motto in raised lettering. The sterling silver crest measures 11/16" (19.5 mm) in diameter—a traditional emblem historically presented by the Clan chief as a mark of loyalty and kinship.

While antique Sgian Dubhs with solid sterling silver fittings can exceed $1,000, our expertly handcrafted models deliver exceptional quality at a more accessible price—perfect for weddings, Highland dress, or heritage collections.

The History of the Sgian Dubh
The name Sgian Dubh translates from Gaelic as “Black Knife”. Traditionally, its dark handle was carved from black bog wood, and the blade darkened over time. Another origin story attributes the name to the knife’s concealed nature, worn discreetly but displayed openly in the stocking during Highland dress to show goodwill.

Today, the Sgian Dubh is a symbol of Scottish culture and heritage, not a weapon. It remains an integral part of traditional Highland attire, representing friendship, tradition, and craftsmanship.

With over 43 years of expertise in the Scottish Clan crest industry, we are proud to create heirloom-quality Clan pieces for generations of families.
