SCOTTISH CLAN CREST SGIAN DUBH

Celebrate the elegance of Scottish tradition with our Scottish Clan Crest Sgian Dubh, a finely crafted ceremonial knife featuring your choice of lead-free pewter or sterling silver Clan crest.

Measuring 7-1/2 inches (190 mm) in length and 1-3/8 inches (35 mm) in width, this distinguished piece features a stainless steel blade paired with nickel silver plated fittings. A synthetic stone crowns the handle, available in imitation topaz, sapphire blue, or emerald green, allowing for a touch of personalization.

Your Clan crest is encircled by a belt and buckle design, bearing the Clan motto in raised relief lettering—a historic emblem of loyalty. Traditionally, the Clan chief would present such a crest to clansmen as a sign of allegiance and shared heritage.

Specifications:

  • Overall Length: 7-1/2" (190 mm)

  • Blade Material: Stainless steel

  • Handle & Sheath: Durable resin with plated metal fittings

  • Crest Size: 11/16" (19.5 mm) diameter

  • Stone Options: Imitation topaz, sapphire blue, or emerald green

This Sgian Dubh is custom made to order, with all Clans available. Please specify your Clan when placing your order.

While this is a high-quality, accessible version made from modern materials, it draws inspiration from antique sterling silver Sgian Dubhs, which can exceed $1,000.

THE ORIGIN OF THE SGIAN DUBH
The term Sgian Dubh, meaning "Black Knife" in Gaelic, likely derives from the dark tones of early examples—handles carved from black bog wood and blades darkened over time. Another theory suggests the name refers to its once-concealed nature, traditionally worn in the stocking to indicate the wearer was among friends and bore no malice.

Importantly, the Sgian Dubh is ceremonial in nature and not intended to be used or regarded as a weapon.

With over 40 years of experience, we proudly craft Clan crests for the children and grandchildren of our original customers—continuing a tradition of quality and heritage.
