SCOTTISH CLAN CREST SGIAN DUBH
Discover the elegance of the traditional Scottish Sgian Dubh, a striking black-handled knife that can be personalized with your Clan crest, crafted from lead-free pewter or fine sterling silver.
Measuring 7-1/2 inches in length and 1-3/8 inches in width, this exquisite Sgian Dubh features a stainless steel blade complemented by nickel silver-plated fittings. The decorative top is adorned with a choice of imitation topaz, sapphire blue, or emerald green synthetic stone, adding a touch of sophistication.
The Clan crest is beautifully encircled by a meticulously detailed belt and buckle motif, which showcases your clan motto in raised relief lettering. Historically, the chief of the Clan would present this emblem to his clansmen as a sign of loyalty and belonging. Each piece is handcrafted with precision, ensuring high detail in sterling silver, with the Clan Crest measuring 11/16" (19.5mm) in diameter.
Please be aware that this item is custom-made and typically ships within a few days. We offer every Clan, so when placing your order, simply include your Clan name in the comment section. While this Sgian Dubh is crafted with care, the handle and sheath are made from resin, and the fittings are plated. In contrast, a genuine antique Sgian Dubh with sterling silver fittings can cost over $1,000.00, making this an economical choice.
THE ORIGIN OF THE "SGIAN DUBH"
The term Sgian Dubh, which translates to Black Knife in Gaelic, is believed to have originated from the knife's dark appearance—early handles were often carved from black bog wood, and the blade would darken with age and use. Another theory suggests its name stems from the weapon's easily concealable nature, which is why it is traditionally worn in plain sight at the top of the stocking in Highland attire, signaling that the wearer is among friends and harbors no ill will. It is essential to understand that the Sgian Dubh is not considered a weapon!
