This exquisite Sgian Dubh, a traditional Scottish knife featuring a striking black handle, can be customized with your Clan crest, available in both lead-free pewter and fine sterling silver.

Measuring 7-1/2” in length and 1-3/8” in width, this newly crafted Sgian Dubh showcases a stainless steel blade complemented by nickel silver-plated fittings. Adorning the top is a synthetic stone available in imitation topaz, sapphire blue, or emerald green.

Surrounding the Clan crest is an intricate belt and buckle design, embellished with your clan motto inscribed in raised relief lettering. Historically, the Clan chief would present his crest to loyal clansmen, symbolizing their allegiance and Clan identity. Each piece is meticulously handcrafted in high detail using sterling silver, with the Clan Crest measuring 11/16" (19.5mm) in diameter.

THE ORIGIN OF THE "SGIAN DUBH"
The term Sgian Dubh, which translates to "Black Knife" in Gaelic, likely derives from the knife's dark aesthetic—historically, handles were often carved from black bog wood, and the blades would darken with age and usage. Another theory suggests that its name reflects the concealed nature of the weapon, leading to the tradition of wearing the Sgian Dubh visibly atop the stocking, signaling that the wearer is amongst friends and poses no threat. Importantly, the Sgian Dubh should never be regarded as a weapon!
