SCOTTISH CLAN CREST SGIAN DUBH
Experience the elegance of the Sgian Dubh, a traditional Scottish knife adorned with your Clan crest, crafted from lead-free pewter or fine sterling silver.
This stunning Sgian Dubh measures 7-1/2” in length and 1-3/8” in width, featuring a durable stainless steel blade complemented by nickel silver plated fittings. At the top, choose from an imitation topaz, sapphire blue, or emerald green synthetic stone to add a personal touch.
The Clan crest is beautifully encircled by an intricate belt and buckle design, which showcases your clan motto in raised relief lettering. This practice harks back to ancient times when Clan chiefs bestowed their crest upon clansmen, symbolizing loyalty and affiliation. Each piece is meticulously handcrafted with exceptional detail in sterling silver, with the Clan Crest measuring 11/16" (19.5mm) in diameter.
Each Sgian Dubh is made to order, typically ready in just a few days. We offer designs for every Clan. To personalize your order, simply include your Clan name in the comment section when placing your request. While this Sgian Dubh is expertly crafted, please note that the handle and sheath are composed of resin material, with plated fittings. In contrast, a "genuine" antique Sgian Dubh with sterling silver fittings can exceed $1,000.00; this version offers an economical choice.
THE ORIGIN OF THE "SGIAN DUBH"
The Sgian Dubh, translating to "Black Knife" in Gaelic, derives its name from the dark aesthetics of the knife—early versions featured handles hand-carved from black bog wood, and blades that darkened with use over time.
Another theory suggests the name reflects the weapon's covert nature; traditionally, the Sgian Dubh is displayed prominently at the top of the stocking when wearing Highland attire, indicating that the wearer is among friends and bears no ill will.
Importantly, the Sgian Dubh is not considered a weapon and should not be treated as such!
