SCOTTISH CLAN CREST SGIAN DUBH

Discover the elegance of the Sgian Dubh, a traditional Scottish knife featuring a striking black handle, now available adorned with your Clan crest crafted from lead-free pewter or exquisite sterling silver.

This newly designed Sgian Dubh measures 7-1/2” in length and 1-3/8” in width, equipped with a stainless steel blade and nickel silver plated fittings. The knife is accentuated with a synthetic stone available in imitation topaz, sapphire blue, or emerald green, ensuring a unique touch.

The intricately designed Clan crest is framed by a detailed belt and buckle motif, featuring your clan motto inscribed in raised relief. Historically, the chief of the Clan would bestow this crest upon his clansmen, symbolizing their allegiance and connection to the Clan. Each piece is meticulously handcrafted in sterling silver, with the Clan Crest measuring 11/16" (19.5mm) in diameter.

Please note that this item is custom-made and typically ready in just a few days. Every Clan is represented, so don’t forget to include your Clan name in the comments section when placing your order. While this Sgian Dubh is crafted with quality materials, the handle and sheath are made from resin, and the fittings are plated. In contrast, an authentic vintage Sgian Dubh with solid silver fittings can exceed $1,000.00. This model offers a more affordable option.

THE ORIGIN OF THE "SGIAN DUBH"
The term Sgian Dubh, meaning Black Knife in Gaelic, likely derives from the dark aesthetic of the knife. Historically, handles were carved from black bog wood, and the blades would darken over time through use. Another theory suggests that the name reflects the concealed nature of this blade, leading to the tradition of wearing the Sgian Dubh visibly atop the stocking while in Highland dress, signaling friendship and absence of malicious intent.
It’s important to note that the Sgian Dubh is not intended to be regarded as a weapon!
