SCOTTISH CLAN CREST SGIAN DUBH
Introducing the exquisite Sgian Dubh, a traditional Scottish knife featuring a striking black handle, beautifully adorned with your Clan crest crafted from lead-free pewter or premium sterling silver.
This newly designed Sgian Dubh measures 7-1/2 inches in length and 1-3/8 inches in width, showcasing a durable stainless steel blade complemented by nickel silver plated fittings. The knife's top is embellished with a synthetic stone available in imitation topaz, sapphire blue, or emerald green.
Surrounding the Clan crest is an intricately designed belt and buckle motif, elegantly inscribed with your clan motto in raised relief lettering. Historically, the chief of the Clan would present his crest to clansmen as a mark of loyalty and Clan association. Each piece is meticulously handcrafted in sterling silver, with the Clan Crest measuring 11/16 inches (19.5mm) in diameter.
Please note, this item is made to order and typically takes only a few days to complete. All Clan designs are available. To finalize your order, simply include your Clan name in the comments section when purchasing. While this Sgian Dubh is crafted with care, please be aware that the handle and sheath are made from resin material with plated fittings. In contrast, an authentic vintage Sgian Dubh with solid silver fittings can exceed $1,000. This model serves as an economical alternative.
THE ORIGIN OF THE "SGIAN DUBH"
The term Sgian Dubh, translating to "Black Knife" in Gaelic, is believed to have originated from the knife's dark aesthetics; early versions featured handles carved from black bog wood, while the blades would darken with use and age.
Another theory suggests that the name stems from the concealed nature of the weapon, which is why it is traditionally worn visibly at the top of the stocking when donning Highland attire, signaling that the wearer is among friends and bears no ill will.
It is important to note that the Sgian Dubh was never intended to be a weapon and should not be regarded as such!
