Measuring 7 1/2” (190 mm) in length and 1 3/8” (35 mm) in width, this newly designed Sgian Dubh features a stainless steel blade and nickel silver plated fittings. At the top, you can choose from a stunning imitation glass stone available in blue sapphire, emerald green, or purple amethyst. Select your preferred color at the time of ordering.

The Clan crest is elegantly encircled by a detailed belt and buckle motif, which proudly displays your clan motto in raised relief lettering. Each piece is meticulously handcrafted with exquisite detail in sterling silver, and the Clan Crest measures 11/16" (19.5 mm) in diameter. Historically, the chief of the Clan would present this crest to his clansmen, symbolizing loyalty and Clan affiliation.

THE ORIGIN OF THE "SGIAN DUBH"

The term Sgian Dubh, which translates to "Black Knife" in Gaelic, is believed to have originated from the knife's dark appearance. Traditionally, the handles were hand-carved from black bog wood, and over time, the blade would adopt a dark hue through use and age. Another theory suggests that the name stems from the weapon's discreet nature, leading to the tradition of displaying the Sgian Dubh openly at the top of the stocking while donning Highland attire, indicating that the wearer is among friends and harbors no malicious intent. It is important to note that the Sgian Dubh is not considered a weapon.

With over 43 years of experience in the Scottish Clan crest industry, our company takes pride in creating Clan jewelry for the children and grandchildren of our very first customers.
