SCOTTISH CLAN CREST SGIAN DUBH

This exquisite Sgian Dubh, a traditional Scottish knife featuring a black handle, can be customized with your Clan crest crafted from lead-free pewter or premium sterling silver.

Measuring 7-1/2” in length and 1-3/8” in width, this newly designed Sgian Dubh boasts a stainless steel blade complemented by nickel silver-plated fittings. At the top, you can choose from an imitation topaz, sapphire blue, or emerald green synthetic stone for added elegance.

The Clan crest is elegantly encircled by a detailed belt and buckle motif, where your Clan motto is beautifully inscribed in raised relief. Historically, the Clan chief would present his crest to clansmen to signify their loyalty and connection to the Clan. Each piece is meticulously handcrafted in sterling silver, with the Clan Crest measuring 11/16" (19.5mm) in diameter.

Kindly note that this item is made to order, typically within a few days. Every Clan is represented, so please include your Clan name in the comments section when placing your order. While this Sgian Dubh is expertly constructed, the handle and sheath are made from resin, and the fittings are plated. In contrast, a traditional Sgian Dubh with sterling silver fittings often retails for over $1,000.00, making this an affordable option.

THE ORIGIN OF THE "SGIAN DUBH"
The name Sgian Dubh, which translates to "Black Knife" in Gaelic, likely derives from the knife's dark appearance—early handles were commonly crafted from black bog wood, and the blades would darken with time and use. Another theory suggests that its name reflects the concealed nature of the weapon, which is why it is traditionally worn visibly atop the stocking while donning Highland attire, signaling that the wearer is among friends and poses no threat. It is important to emphasize that the Sgian Dubh is not, nor should it be regarded as, a weapon.

With over forty years of experience in the Scottish Clan crest industry, our company has the honor of creating Clan jewelry for the children and grandchildren of our original customers.
