Although the handle and sheath are made from resin and the fittings are plated, this Sgian Dubh offers an economical option compared to genuine models, which can cost over $1,000.00.
The Origin of the "Sgian Dubh"
The name "Sgian Dubh" (Gaelic for "Black Knife") is thought to originate from the dark appearance of early knives, often made with black bog wood handles and darkened blades from use and age. Another theory suggests the name refers to the dark nature of a concealed weapon, which is why the Sgian Dubh is traditionally worn in the top of the stocking to show the wearer’s friendly intentions.
Please remember, the Sgian Dubh is not intended as a weapon but as a traditional accessory.
