Sgian Dubh

Celebrate your Scottish heritage with our exquisite Sgian Dubh, a traditional Scottish knife that showcases your Clan crest. This remarkable piece is available with a handle crafted from lead-free pewter or fine sterling silver, making it both a practical tool and a meaningful symbol of your lineage.

With dimensions of 7-1/2" in length and 1-3/8" in width, the Sgian Dubh features a durable stainless steel blade complemented by elegant nickel silver-plated fittings. The top of the knife is embellished with an imitation stone, offering a choice of vibrant colors such as topaz, sapphire blue, or emerald green.

The Clan Crest is artfully encircled by a detailed belt and buckle motif, with your Clan motto elegantly inscribed in raised relief lettering. Historically, Clan chiefs would present their crest to loyal Clansmen, symbolizing allegiance and Clan membership. Each Sgian Dubh is expertly handcrafted, with the Clan Crest measuring 11/16" (19.5mm) in diameter.

Kindly note that each piece is custom-made and typically ships within a few days. We cater to all Clans, so be sure to provide your Clan name in the comments section when placing your order. While the handle and sheath are constructed from resin and the fittings are plated, this Sgian Dubh presents a more affordable alternative to genuine models, which can exceed $1,000.00.

The Meaning Behind the "Sgian Dubh"

The term "Sgian Dubh," which translates from Gaelic to "Black Knife," is believed to be derived from the darklook of early knives, often fashioned with black bog wood handles and blades that darkened over time due to use. Another interpretation suggests that the name refers to its historical role as a concealed weapon, traditionally worn at the top of the stocking to indicate the wearer’s friendly intentions.

It is important to remember that the Sgian Dubh is designed as a traditional accessory rather than a weapon.
