THE ORIGIN OF THE "SGIAN DUBH"

The term "Sgian Dubh," which translates to Black Knife in Gaelic, is believed to stem from its original dark appearance, with early handles crafted from black bog wood, and blades that darkened over time through use. Another interpretation suggests that the name refers to the weapon's dark and easily concealable nature. Traditionally, the Sgian Dubh is displayed openly in the stocking as part of Highland attire, symbolizing goodwill and camaraderie.

It is important to note that the Sgian Dubh should not be seen as a weapon; it holds significant cultural value.
