The Sgian Dubh holds a rich history, with its name derived from the Gaelic for Black Knife. Its origins are thought to stem from the dark appearance of early handles carved from black bog wood, or from the concealed nature of the blade, traditionally worn in the top of the stocking during Highland attire to signify goodwill among friends.
Though steeped in tradition, the Sgian Dubh is not and should not be considered a weapon.
With over forty years in the Scottish Clan crest business, we take pride in crafting Clan jewelry for generations, ensuring your heritage lives on with every piece.
