Introducing our exquisite Scottish Clan Crest Sgian Dubh, a traditional Scottish black-handled knife adorned with your Clan crest in lead-free pewter or fine sterling silver.
This brand new Sgian Dubh measures 7-1/2” long by 1-3/8” wide and features a stainless steel blade with nickel silver-plated fittings. At the top, you'll find an imitation topaz, sapphire blue, or emerald green synthetic stone adding a touch of elegance.
Each Sgian Dubh showcases your Clan crest, surrounded by a detailed belt and buckle design, with your Clan motto delicately inscribed in raised relief lettering. This design pays homage to ancient times when the Clan chief presented their crest to Clansmen as a symbol of loyalty and affiliation. Crafted with meticulous attention to detail, the Clan Crest measures 11/16" (19.5mm) in diameter.
Please note that while this item is made to order, it typically takes only a few days for completion. Every Clan is available, simply add your Clan name in the comment area when ordering to complete your special order.
The handle and sheath of the Sgian Dubh are made of resin material, while the fittings are plated. While this Sgian Dubh is an economy model, it is nonetheless very well made. Genuine old Sgian Dubhs with sterling silver fittings can sell for over $1,000.00, making this a more accessible option.
The name "Sgian Dubh," Gaelic for Black Knife, likely originated from the knife's dark appearance, with early handles often hand-carved from black bog wood and the blade becoming dark through use and age. Another theory suggests it arose from the dark or sinister nature of an easily concealed weapon, though it should not be considered as such. In Highland attire, it is traditionally worn in the top of the stocking to show that its wearer is among friends and has no ill intent.
With over forty years of experience in the Scottish Clan crest business, we are proud to continue crafting Clan jewelry for the children and grandchildren of our first customers. Wear your Scottish Clan Crest Sgian Dubh with pride, a symbol of tradition and heritage passed down through generations.
