🏰 Clan Rollo History

Clan Rollo (also known as Clan Rollock or Clan Roll) is a Scottish clan originating from Perthshire, in central Scotland. The name “Rollo” is of Norman origin, derived from the Old Norse Rolf or Hrolf, which became Rollo in French. The clan’s ancestors are thought to have come to Scotland with William the Conqueror, or soon after, and settled near Dunning and Auchterarder in Perthshire.

By the 14th century, the family was well established in Scotland. Sir Walter Rollo supported King Robert the Bruce during the Wars of Scottish Independence, earning royal favor. Later members of the clan distinguished themselves militarily in Scotland and abroad, including in Sweden and Germany during the Thirty Years’ War.

The main family seat historically was Duncrub House, located near Dunning. The head of the clan bears the title Lord Rollo of Duncrub, a peerage created in 1651 for Sir Andrew Rollo, who supported King Charles II.
