Clan MacTavish

Crest: A wild boar’s head.
Motto: “Non Oblitus” (Not Forgetful).

History

The MacTavish Clan (Clann MacThamhais) takes its name from the Gaelic form of Thomas, meaning “son of Thomas.” Rooted in Argyll, the MacTavishes were closely associated with Clan Campbell, though they retained their own distinct identity and chiefs.

Historically, the MacTavishes were a small but proud Highland clan. Despite often being overshadowed by their more powerful neighbors, their spirit and loyalty ensured they remained an enduring part of Scotland’s clan heritage. Their crest, a boar’s head, represents courage, ferocity, and resilience, while the motto “Non Oblitus” is a declaration of remembrance and survival.

Tartan

The MacTavish tartan is characterized by rich red, green, and blue tones, accented with bold overstripes that reflect both their independence and strong Highland traditions.

Seat

The traditional seat of the clan was at Dunardry near Lochgilphead in Argyll. The ruins of the site still mark the deep connection of the MacTavishes to their homeland.
