SCOTTISH CLAN CREST SGIAN DUBH

Discover the elegance of the Sgian Dubh, a traditional Scottish knife featuring a striking black handle, beautifully adorned with your Clan crest crafted from lead-free pewter or exquisite sterling silver.

This newly designed Sgian Dubh measures 7-1/2 inches in length and 1-3/8 inches in width, showcasing a resilient stainless steel blade complemented by nickel silver plated fittings. The knife is topped with an imitation gemstone available in shades of topaz, sapphire blue, or emerald green.

Your Clan crest takes center stage, encircled by a meticulously detailed belt and buckle motif, with your clan motto elegantly inscribed in raised relief. Historically, Clan chiefs bestowed their crest upon loyal clansmen, symbolizing their allegiance and Clan identity. Each Sgian Dubh is meticulously handcrafted, emphasizing high-quality craftsmanship in sterling silver. The Clan Crest measures 11/16" (19.5mm) in diameter.

Kindly note that this item is made to order and typically ships in just a few days. We serve every Clan, so please include your Clan name in the comments section during checkout. While this Sgian Dubh is well-crafted, the handle and sheath are made from resin, with the fittings being plated. In contrast, a "genuine" antique Sgian Dubh with sterling silver fittings can cost over $1,000. This model offers an economical alternative.

THE ORIGIN OF THE "SGIAN DUBH"
The term Sgian Dubh, translating to "Black Knife" in Gaelic, is believed to be derived from the knife's dark aesthetic. Early handles were often crafted from black bog wood, while the blades darkened with age and use. Another theory suggests that the name reflects the weapon's covert nature, which is why it is traditionally worn visibly at the top of the stocking in Highland attire, signifying that the wearer is among friends and harbors no ill intentions. It is important to note that the Sgian Dubh is not, nor should it be perceived as, a weapon!
