History

The MacQueen Clan (Clann Mhic Shuibhne) is a Highland family with ancient roots, historically allied with the Clan Chattan Confederation. The name MacQueen derives from the Gaelic Mac Shuibhne, meaning “son of Sweyn”, reflecting a mix of Gaelic and Norse heritage.

Known for their loyalty and warrior spirit, the MacQueens were close allies of the Mackintosh chiefs of Clan Chattan and were famed for their role in defending their kin and land. The wolf crest symbolizes strength, ferocity, and independence — fitting for a clan remembered for its constancy and courage.

Tartan

The MacQueen tartan blends deep greens, blues, and red lines, symbolizing the clan’s connection to the Highlands, their steadfast loyalty, and their readiness for battle.

Seat

The MacQueens were historically based around Moy, Inverness-shire, where they served as devoted supporters of the Mackintosh chiefs.
