Clan MacNaughton

The Clan MacNaughton (Gaelic: Clann Neachdain) is an ancient Highland clan whose name means “descendant of Nechtan”. Their early history is rooted in western Scotland, particularly Loch Awe and Glenorchy in Argyllshire. Once powerful lords in the region, the MacNaughtons later supported the MacDougalls and other clans during the Wars of Independence, and eventually became followers of the Campbells after losing much of their original lands.

Clan Septs

Septs associated with Clan MacNaughton include Naughton, MacNechtan, Nechtan, Naughten, Natton, and variations reflecting Gaelic and anglicized forms of the name.
