Clan MacIntyre

The Clan MacIntyre (Gaelic: Clann Mhic an t-Saoir) is an ancient Highland clan whose name means “Son of the Carpenter”. Traditionally based in Glen Noe on the shores of Loch Etive in Argyll, the MacIntyres were renowned as hereditary foresters to the Campbells of Glenorchy and as skilled craftsmen, hunters, and loyal Highlanders. Their history is closely tied to the rugged mountains and glens of the central Highlands.

Clan Crest

The MacIntyre crest shows a hand holding a dagger upright, symbolizing courage, vigilance, and readiness to defend clan honor.

Clan Motto

The motto is “Per Ardua” (Through Difficulties), reflecting the resilience and strength of the MacIntyres through centuries of Highland struggles.

Clan Septs

Septs and associated families historically connected with Clan MacIntyre include Wright, MacIntire, MacAteer, MacTear, and MacTir, names that share the root meaning of carpenter or craftsman.
