Lennox Clan — History, Crest, Motto, Septs, Tartan

Celebrate your Lennox heritage with authentic details drawn from Scottish tradition.

History & Origins
The Lennox clan takes its name from the district of Lennox in Dunbartonshire. The name comes from the Gaelic Leamhnachd, meaning “smooth stream” or “place of elms.” The Earls of Lennox were one of the most powerful Lowland families in medieval Scotland, with strong connections to the royal house. Mary, Queen of Scots, descended from the Lennox line through her grandfather, Matthew Stewart, 4th Earl of Lennox.
