Celebrate your Clanranald heritage with authentic details rooted in the proud traditions of the MacDonald kindred.

History & Origins

The Clanranald branch of Clan Donald descends from Ranald, son of John of Islay, Lord of the Isles, and Amy MacRuari. This line became one of the most powerful in the Western Highlands, with influence stretching across South Uist, Moidart, and the Outer Hebrides. Known as the “Captains of Clanranald,” the chiefs led their people in resistance, raiding, and defense of Gaelic tradition. Over centuries, the Clanranalds remained central to Highland and Jacobite history, with many chiefs and clansmen fighting in the risings of the 17th and 18th centuries.

Crest & Motto

  • Crest: A hand holding a cross crosslet fitchée rising from a triple-towered castle

  • Motto: My Hope Is Constant in Thee

  • Badge Etiquette: Clansfolk wear the crest within a strap-and-buckle design that bears the motto, symbolizing loyalty to the chief.
