This exquisite Sgian Dubh is expertly crafted by The Sgian Dubh Company in Scotland, representing the pinnacle of quality in the market today. Each knife is presented in a premium blue gift box, proudly labeled as "Made in Scotland."

Featuring a beautiful design, this traditional Scottish knife boasts a black handle and is available with your Clan crest in either lead-free pewter or fine sterling silver. Every Clan is represented. This high-end Sgian Dubh comes beautifully packaged and is constructed with a durable resin handle and sheath, complemented by plated metal fittings. Antique "genuine" Sgian Dubhs with sterling silver fittings can fetch over $1,000, but we offer these at a more accessible price—please inquire for details.

This brand-new Sgian Dubh measures 7 1/2” (190 mm) in length and 1 3/8” (35 mm) in width, featuring a stainless steel blade and nickel silver plated fittings. Choose from an array of colors for the top stone, including imitation glass blue sapphire, emerald green, or purple amethyst when placing your order.

The Clan crest is elegantly framed by a detailed belt and buckle motif, which features your clan motto inscribed in raised relief lettering. Each piece is meticulously handcrafted in high detail using sterling silver, with the Clan Crest measuring 11/16" (19.5 mm) in diameter. Historically, the chief of the Clan would present his crest to clansmen as a token of loyalty and affiliation.

Kindly note that this item is made to order and requires a few days for creation. All Clans are available for customization.

THE ORIGIN OF THE "SGIAN DUBH"

The term "Sgian Dubh," which translates from Gaelic to mean "Black Knife," is believed to derive from the knife's dark appearance; early versions were often hand-carved from black bog wood, and the blades would darken over time through use and exposure. Another theory suggests that its name reflects the concealed nature of the weapon, which is why it is traditionally worn visibly at the top of the stocking when donning Highland attire, signaling that the wearer is among friends and means no harm. It’s important to note that the Sgian Dubh is not intended to be viewed as a weapon.

With over 43 years of experience in the Scottish Clan crest business, our company proudly designs Clan jewelry for the children and grandchildren of our very first customers.
