Lamont Clan — History, Crest, Motto, Septs, Tartan

Celebrate your Lamont heritage with authentic details drawn from Scottish tradition.

History & Origins
The Lamont clan takes its name from the Gaelic Mac Laomainn, meaning “son of Lawman.” The family descends from the ancient royal house of Dalriada in Argyll, tracing kinship to the O’Neill princes of Ireland. By the 13th century, the Lamonts held large territories in Cowal, Argyllshire, but over time much of their land was lost to neighboring clans, particularly the Campbells. Despite hardship, the Lamonts endured as a recognized Highland clan with deep historical roots.
