SCOTTISH CLAN CREST SGIAN DUBH

Introducing the elegant Sgian Dubh, a traditional Scottish knife featuring a striking black handle, available with your Clan crest crafted from lead-free pewter or exquisite sterling silver.

This brand-new Sgian Dubh measures 7-1/2” in length and 1-3/8” in width, boasting a stainless steel blade complemented by nickel silver-plated fittings. The knife's top is adorned with a choice of synthetic stones in imitation topaz, sapphire blue, or emerald green.

Your Clan crest is beautifully encircled by an intricate belt and buckle design, with your clan motto inscribed in raised relief lettering. Historically, Clan chiefs bestowed their crests upon clansmen as a symbol of loyalty and Clan identity. Each piece is meticulously handcrafted in sterling silver, with the Clan Crest measuring 11/16" (19.5mm) in diameter.

This item is made to order, typically taking just a few days to complete. We cater to every Clan, so please include your Clan name in the comments section when placing your order. While this Sgian Dubh is exceptionally well-crafted, it features a resin handle and sheath, along with plated fittings. For comparison, an authentic vintage Sgian Dubh with sterling silver fittings can fetch over $1,000.00, making this Sgian Dubh a more economical choice.

THE ORIGIN OF THE "SGIAN DUBH"
The term Sgian Dubh, which translates to "Black Knife" in Gaelic, is believed to have originated from the knife's dark aesthetic; early handles were often carved from black bog wood, and the blades would darken with use and age. Another theory suggests that its name derives from its nature as a concealed weapon, which is why it is traditionally worn visibly at the top of the stocking while dressed in Highland attire, signaling that the wearer is among friends and bears no ill intent. Importantly, the Sgian Dubh should never be regarded as a weapon!
