SCOTTISH CLAN CREST SGIAN DUBH

This exquisite Sgian Dubh, a traditional Scottish knife featuring a striking black handle, can be customized with your Clan crest in lead-free pewter or fine sterling silver.

Measuring 7-1/2” in length and 1-3/8” in width, this brand-new Sgian Dubh boasts a stainless steel blade complemented by nickel silver-plated fittings. At the top, you can choose from an imitation topaz, sapphire blue, or emerald green synthetic stone to add a personal touch.

Surrounding the Clan crest is a beautifully detailed belt and buckle design, which features your clan motto inscribed in raised relief lettering. This tradition dates back to ancient times when the clan chief would present his crest to clansmen as a symbol of loyalty and affiliation. Each piece is meticulously handcrafted in sterling silver, with the Clan Crest measuring 11/16" (19.5mm) in diameter.

Note that this item is made to order and typically takes only a few days to produce. All Clans are available, and to personalize your order, simply include your Clan name in the comments section at checkout. While this Sgian Dubh is well-crafted, please be aware that the handle and sheath are made from resin, with plated fittings. In contrast, an authentic vintage Sgian Dubh with sterling silver fittings can exceed $1,000.00, making this piece an economical choice.

THE ORIGIN OF THE "SGIAN DUBH"
The term Sgian Dubh, which translates to "Black Knife" in Gaelic, is thought to derive from the knife's dark appearance. Early Sgian Dubhs often featured handles carved from black bog wood, while the blades darkened over time through use and age.
Another theory suggests that the name originates from the concealed nature of this weapon, as it was traditionally kept visible at the top of the stocking while donning Highland attire to signify that the wearer was among friends and posed no threat.
It is essential to remember that the Sgian Dubh was never intended to be regarded as a weapon!

With over forty years of experience in the Scottish Clan crest industry, our company now creates Clan jewelry for the next generations of our original customers.
