SCOTTISH CLAN CREST SGIAN DUBH

This stunning Sgian Dubh, a traditional Scottish knife with a black handle, is elegantly crafted and comes adorned with your Clan crest, available in both lead-free pewter and fine sterling silver.

Measuring 7-1/2 inches in length and 1-3/8 inches in width, this brand new Sgian Dubh features a durable stainless steel blade complemented by nickel silver plated fittings. At the top, you’ll find a choice of synthetic stones in imitation topaz, sapphire blue, or emerald green.

Your Clan crest is beautifully encircled by an intricate belt and buckle design, which showcases your clan motto in raised relief lettering. Historically, the Clan chief would present this crest to his clansmen as a symbol of loyalty and Clan affiliation. Each piece is meticulously handcrafted with attention to detail in sterling silver, and the diameter of the Clan Crest is 11/16 inches (19.5mm).

Please keep in mind that this item is made to order, typically taking just a few days to complete. We offer every Clan, so don’t forget to include your Clan name in the comments section when placing your order. This Sgian Dubh is well-crafted, featuring a resin material handle and sheath, while the fittings are plated. In contrast, a genuine antique Sgian Dubh with sterling silver fittings can exceed $1,000.00; our version serves as an economical alternative.

THE ORIGIN OF THE "SGIAN DUBH"
The name Sgian Dubh, translating to Black Knife in Gaelic, is believed to have originated due to the knife's dark appearance—historically, the handles were often carved from black bog wood, and the blades would darken with age and use. Another theory suggests that it reflects the dark nature of a weapon that can be easily concealed. Traditionally, the Sgian Dubh is worn visibly at the top of the stocking while donning Highland attire, signaling the wearer’s friendly intentions and absence of malice.
It’s important to emphasize that the Sgian Dubh is not intended, nor should it be regarded, as a weapon!
