SCOTTISH CLAN CREST SGIAN DUBH
This exquisite Sgian Dubh, a traditional Scottish knife with a striking black handle, can be customized with your Clan crest crafted from lead-free pewter or fine sterling silver.
Measuring 7-1/2” in length and 1-3/8” in width, this newly designed Sgian Dubh features a stainless steel blade complemented by nickel silver plated fittings. At the top, you can choose from an imitation topaz, sapphire blue, or emerald green synthetic stone, adding a touch of elegance.
The Clan crest is beautifully encircled by an intricate belt and buckle motif, which prominently displays your clan motto in raised relief lettering. Historically, the Clan chief would grant his clansmen the right to wear his crest, symbolizing their loyalty and dedication to the Clan. Each piece is meticulously handcrafted with exceptional detail in sterling silver, with the Clan Crest measuring 11/16" (19.5mm) in diameter.
Kindly note that this item is made to order, typically taking just a few days for completion. All Clan designs are available. To personalize your order, please include your Clan name in the comment section during checkout. While this Sgian Dubh is well-crafted, the handle and sheath are made from resin material with plated fittings. In comparison, a genuine antique Sgian Dubh with sterling silver fittings can exceed $1,000. This model serves as an economical alternative.
THE ORIGIN OF THE "SGIAN DUBH"
The term Sgian Dubh, meaning "Black Knife" in Gaelic, is believed to derive from the knife's dark appearance, as early handles were often carved from black bog wood and the blades darkened over time through use. Another theory suggests that the name originates from the concealed nature of this weapon, leading to the tradition of displaying the Sgian Dubh openly at the top of the stocking when adorned in Highland dress, indicating the wearer's friendly intentions.
It is important to emphasize that the Sgian Dubh should not be regarded as a weapon!
