The Brigid Celtic Cross measures 3/4" in width and length (20mm) and features a beautifully polished back, crafted from stamped sterling silver. The front showcases intricate antiqued detailing, lending an air of elegance to this delicate pendant. It comes with a hidden bale and is accompanied by an 18" sterling silver chain, making it a stunning addition to any jewelry collection.

Saint Brigid, revered as the second patron saint of Ireland after St. Patrick, is also known as Saint Bride or Bridget (451-523 AD). Renowned for her beauty and remarkable talents, she was raised in a Druid family. At the tender age of 14, she chose to pursue a life dedicated to faith rather than marry her suitor, ultimately becoming a nun in a small convent that thrived under a majestic oak tree. This sacred place later became the site of the famous Kildare monastery, which translates to "Church of the Oak." Interestingly, she is also recognized as the patroness of the Knights of Chivalry, and it is believed that the term 'bride' emerged in the English language as these knights married women they cherished as their own brides.

According to traditional Irish lore, while imparting the teachings of Christianity to a dying man, St. Brigid crafted a cross from rushes to symbolize the crucifixion and the promise of salvation. This act led to the creation of the first St. Brigid Cross. It became customary to hang St. Brigid Crosses in homes and stables to ward off evil and hunger. Even today, similar crosses made from rushes are often placed in the rafters of residences. The feast day of Saint Brigid is celebrated on February 1st, the day believed to mark her passing, which coincides with the Celtic fire festival of Imbolc that signals the return of light after the long winter months. This date also marks the beginning of spring in the Celtic calendar, a significant time for farmers as it heralds the end of winter. Additionally, St. Brigid is honored as the patron saint of beer!

This exquisite cross serves as an ideal gift for brides-to-be or bridesmaids, symbolizing love and commitment. We also offer a larger version for those who desire a more prominent piece.
