⚔️ The Origin of the “Sgian Dubh”

The name Sgian Dubh (Gaelic for Black Knife) is thought to have originated from:

• Its dark appearance, as early handles were carved from black bog wood and darkened with age, or

• Its hidden nature, as it was originally a concealed blade kept close for protection.

Traditionally, it is worn openly tucked into the kilt hose, symbolizing trust and friendship — showing that the wearer bears no hidden weapon or ill intent.
